Bonobos

I just discovered that bonobos are pretty interesting hominids.

Humans display a capacity for tolerance and cooperation among social groups that is rare in the animal kingdom, our long history of war and political strife notwithstanding. But how did we get that way?

Scientists believe bonobos might serve as an evolutionary model. The endangered primates share 99 percent of their DNA with humans and have a reputation for generally being peace-loving and sexually active — researchers jokingly refer to them "hippie apes." And interactions between their social groups are thought to be much less hostile than among their more violent cousins, the chimpanzees.

Originally it was this Wikipedia article that got me thinking it might have been nice to be a closer relative to bobobos.

Ya bonobos are interesting. They sort of use sex kind of like how chimps use grooming amongst each other.

Anyway, regarding cooperative behavior, native tribes were like that until more aggressive conquerer types got to them.

How do Bonobos deal with the homeless?

There do not seem to be homeless bonobos, except for the coming-of-age females who leave their troop for another community. They wander around until they find another troop and are warmly welcomed.
