events over now. dexter is off on additional adventures and im in pennsylvania, halfway home.

there were quite a few 200-plus mph runs with new people. but no nortons, no triumphs.

one guy only brought his BSA 650, a supercharged A65, but he had all kinds of carburation issues. if he jetted so it would run on tbe strip, it would foul waiting in line. he was running really hot plugs, NGK B7ES, but it didnt help

im coming back with modifications

we didnt go fast. i would rather be in two pieces but go fast.

the hot shot electronic ignition from new zealand wasnt working. i could not get the machine over 105 mph.

but the boy ran the bike!

he accompanied me here to bring my body back if i died. or so he said.

i asked, do you want to ride it?

sure.

and he did.



at first he was unwilling to get the machine over the reversion. it would just burble and misfire at 4000 rpm. cams and pipes, normal.

i said, run out there for five seconds at full throttle, in first. at 3500 the motor will burble and misfire. hold the throttle wide open, and at 4100 or so it will clean up. shift into second at 6000, and hold it open until it wont go any faster to shift to third.

and he didnt listen for the first two runs and just burbled and was slow. when i finally convinced him to keep the rpms up over the reversion he was quite startled.

this thing really accelerates. it almost threw me off.

why, yes, i said.

so he did a final run at 100-plus mph, on the first day he ever rode the machine, with about twenty minutes of practice. excellent time considering, because i was only able to do 105, and ive run the machine several hundred times.

so it was a good day.

dunno.

the girls are all distant. the boys may, or may not.

ive gone alone but it isnt easy as the motorcycle has a separate starter cart, and so it takes multiple trips for one person to get it to the starting line and running.

i can install a kickstart, but it requires re-configuring the entire rear of the machine because there isnt room-- installing a hardtail, building a new seat and footpegs. if i changed to a left-foot shift i could do it but the gearbox is on the right.

so im hoping somebody comes along
