Should someone who writes a letter to a newspaper be allowed to unpublish that letter from the paper?

Should a politician be allowed to delete his election promises after he is elected?

You forgot to vote "No" in the poll. devil smiley

Often the worst thing for the country is for a politician to actually keep all his promises.

I voted against a guy because his promises were stupid. When he ran for re-election, it was pointed out he lied about the stupider things he promised and I voted to re-elect the guy.

I just said this over in Vynn's Corner thread, but I might as well put it here too:

Once a person posts something on the internet, it is in the public record.  No one has the legal right to pass their writings off as someone else's, or to post what they have written somewhere else.  But Omen himself posted the text where it is right now.  It's public record.  To insist on having the right to delete it would be like insisting on getting a letter back from someone after you sent it, or like insisting that the newspaper turn over all copies of an edition that contains the text of a publicly-made speech that you decided you didn't want anyone to read about anymore.  It doesn't work that way.  The administration of the forum can restore deleted posts at its discretion, without in any way violating your right to free speech.  You said it.  It's credited to you.  It's where you said it.  It's completely quoted.  It's public record.

Sometimes, folks decide to take a specific post back, or edit something, because they have changed their minds.  I don't mind occasional stuff like that.

Your points are valid but you should throw in your no vote to make it objective.

Luke has a nice thread on the issue, I thought Luke should have had a poll too.

I added a rhetorical question option for you.

In that case, carry on with your answers. Perhaps one's not involving things that smell bad.

Seems like it would fall under editing their own posts. Since most people quote the sections they are responding too, it seem to not matter much.

Is it acceptable to turn up for a basketball match, smash the place up because you're not allowed to kick the ball, leave ... and then come back and complain that the staff have repaired the damage you caused?

But it's only your abitrary translation of "kick", so why should I have to use my hands?
